About
Nastasia Freeman is a licensed psychotherapist and founder of Root & Fray specializing in complex trauma, PTSD, attachment, and relational patterns. Her work focuses on understanding not only the symptoms of trauma, but the deeper ways trauma and early relational experiences can shape identity, emotional functioning, relationships, and the nervous system.
Working with both individuals and couples, Nastasia helps clients understand the patterns beneath what they are experiencing. This may include difficulties with emotional safety, trust, vulnerability, communication, intimacy, attachment, or recurring relationship dynamics that remain difficult to change despite insight or previous therapy.
She is particularly known for her work at the intersection of trauma and relationships. When trauma or PTSD is present in one or both partners, the relationship can become shaped by nervous system responses that are easily misunderstood. Withdrawal may be experienced as rejection. Attempts to create safety may feel controlling. Conflict can activate responses rooted in experiences that existed long before the relationship began.
Nastasia works with couples to understand what is happening beneath these interactions, helping partners recognize the role trauma plays in their relationship while developing healthier ways to communicate, navigate conflict, repair, and experience connection.
Her Approach
Nastasia's clinical approach integrates neuroscience, attachment theory, and psychodynamic principles, grounded in the belief that exceptional care requires both science and your story.
Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, her work looks beneath the surface to understand the patterns shaping how clients experience themselves, navigate relationships, and respond to the world around them. This may include exploring how early experiences influenced attachment, how the nervous system learned to respond to threat and connection, and how patterns that were once protective continue to influence present-day relationships and emotional functioning.
Insight is an important part of this work, but insight alone is not the goal. The work is about understanding the pattern well enough to begin changing it, and creating space for something different to take its place.
At the center of Nastasia's approach is a philosophy that reflects both the clinical rigor and humanity she brings to her work:
"Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul, be just another human soul." — C.G. Jung
Who She Works Best With
Nastasia is particularly suited to individuals and couples navigating complex trauma, PTSD, attachment injuries, relational strain, and long-standing patterns that continue to affect their lives and relationships.
Her approach may be a strong fit for clients who want to understand more than what they are experiencing. They want to understand why.
Beyond Clinical Practice
Beyond her work with clients, Nastasia founded Hello Healed®, a professional development platform focused on the clinical growth of trauma therapists, providing education, supervision, NCMHCE exam prep, and professional development. She is also involved in domestic violence advocacy through Project 1442.
These areas reflect a broader commitment that extends throughout her work: deepening the understanding of trauma, within the therapy room, among the clinicians who treat it, and in the communities affected by it.
