Project 1442
Mental Health Therapy & Support for Survivors of Domestic Violence
Project 1442 is Root & Fray's domestic violence initiative dedicated to education, advocacy, and trauma-informed support for survivors.
Domestic violence shaped my life.
Surviving it shaped this initiative.
What I inherited, I rebuilt.
Project 1442 is a domestic violence initiative dedicated to education, advocacy, and trauma-informed support for survivors.
Our Story
Domestic violence was never abstract.
I learned to anticipate and brace for it long before I could even spell it.
1442 was the home where I grew up. It passed through generations of my family, carrying histories of abuse that were rarely spoken about and never fully resolved. Years later, I inherited that home, and within its walls, I survived a nearly fatal act of violence.
Project 1442 is named after that address, not to memorialize harm, but to reclaim it.
What once represented fear now stands for advocacy, protection, education, and healing.
As both a survivor and a trauma psychotherapist, I have seen the lasting impact domestic violence has on individuals, families, and communities. I have also seen what becomes possible when survivors are believed, supported, and surrounded by people who understand the complexity of trauma.
Silence allows abuse to continue.
Understanding creates the possibility for change.
Project 1442 exists because no one should have to rebuild alone.

Our Mission
Project 1442 exists to increase understanding of domestic violence through education, advocacy, and trauma-informed support.
We believe survivors deserve more than crisis intervention.
They deserve to be believed.
To be understood.
To have access to informed, compassionate care.
And to rebuild their lives surrounded by people and communities who understand the lasting effects of trauma.
Our goal is not only to support survivors, but to create conversations that challenge misconceptions, strengthen communities, and improve the way domestic violence is recognized and addressed.
Our Work
Project 1442 advances its mission through four areas of focus.
Clinical Support
Survivors often carry the effects of abuse long after the relationship has ended. Through Root & Fray, we provide specialized trauma-focused psychotherapy designed to help survivors understand the impact of abuse, restore emotional safety, strengthen boundaries, and rebuild trust in themselves and others.

Survivor Support
Healing does not happen in isolation.
Project 1442 offers opportunities for survivors to find connection, support, and community in environments that prioritize safety, respect, and autonomy.
Whether through support groups or future community programming, our goal is to remind survivors that they are not defined by what happened to them.
Education
Understanding changes outcomes.
We provide trauma-informed education for survivors, families, professionals, and communities to increase awareness of domestic violence, its long-term effects, and the realities survivors often face during and after abuse.
Education helps replace myths with understanding and empowers people to respond with greater compassion and confidence.
Advocacy
Advocacy begins by listening.
Project 1442 works to elevate survivor voices, encourage trauma-informed practices, strengthen community partnerships, and contribute to conversations that promote safer, more informed responses to domestic violence.
Understanding Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is rarely as simple as it appears from the outside.
It often involves patterns of coercive control, manipulation, intimidation, emotional abuse, financial abuse, isolation, and violence that gradually reshape a person's sense of safety and self.
Recovery begins long before someone leaves, and often continues long afterward.
Greater understanding helps create better support for survivors, families, professionals, and communities.
Common Myths
Myth: Survivors could leave if they really wanted to.
Reality: Leaving is often the most dangerous time and involves complex emotional, financial, legal, and safety considerations.
Myth: Domestic violence only happens in certain communities.
Reality: Abuse affects people of every age, gender, culture, profession, religion, and socioeconomic background.
Myth: If there are no physical injuries, it isn't abuse.
Reality: Emotional abuse, coercive control, intimidation, and psychological manipulation can have profound and lasting effects.
How You Can Support a Survivor
Listen without judgment.
Believe their experiences.
Respect their decisions and timing.
Avoid asking why they stayed.
