About
Nastasia Freeman is a licensed psychotherapist and founder of Root & Fray specializing in complex trauma, PTSD, attachment, and relational patterns. Her clinical focus extends beyond the symptoms of trauma to the ways early experiences can shape identity, emotional functioning, relationships, and the nervous system.
Working with individuals and relationships, Nastasia helps clients understand the patterns beneath what they are experiencing, including difficulties with emotional safety, trust, vulnerability, communication, intimacy, attachment, and relationship dynamics that remain difficult to change despite insight or previous therapy.
She is particularly recognized for her focus at the intersection of trauma and relationships. When trauma or PTSD is present in one or both partners, nervous system responses can become part of the relationship in ways that are easily misunderstood. Withdrawal may be experienced as rejection. Attempts to create safety may feel controlling. Conflict can activate responses shaped by experiences that existed long before the relationship began.
In relationship therapy, Nastasia helps clients understand what is happening beneath these interactions, recognize how trauma may be influencing the relationship, and develop healthier ways to communicate, navigate conflict, repair, and reconnect.
Her Approach
Nastasia’s approach integrates neuroscience, attachment theory, and psychodynamic principles, with an emphasis on understanding the connection between past experiences and present-day patterns.
Therapy with Nastasia is thoughtful, direct, and exploratory. She helps clients look beneath what is happening in the moment to understand where patterns began, what they once protected, and why they may continue even when they are no longer helpful.
Insight is an important part of the process, but understanding alone is not the goal. Therapy also creates opportunities to respond differently, develop greater emotional flexibility, and experience new ways of relating to yourself and others.
At the center of her approach is the understanding that trauma therapy requires both clinical expertise and human understanding.
Who She Works Best With
Nastasia is particularly suited to individuals and relationships navigating complex trauma, PTSD, attachment injuries, relational strain, and long-standing patterns that continue to shape how they experience themselves and one another.
Her approach may be a strong fit for clients who want to understand not just what they are experiencing, but why.
Beyond Clinical Practice
Beyond therapy, Nastasia is the founder of Hello Healed®, a professional platform supporting the clinical development of emerging and established trauma therapists, and Project 1442, an initiative focused on domestic violence advocacy.
Together, these areas reflect a broader commitment to advancing the understanding of trauma among those who experience it, the clinicians who treat it, and the communities affected by it.
